The Western Regional House of Chiefs has honoured Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, Member of Parliament for Ellembelle and Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, for his decisive role in resolving a long-standing leadership impasse that had stalled the institution’s work for five years.

At a ceremony held on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, at the House’s premises, traditional leaders and government officials gathered to recognise what many described as a turning point for the Western Region’s traditional governance. The protracted dispute had paralysed the House’s operations, weakening its ability to serve as a unified voice for chiefs across the region.

Presenting the honour, the President of the House, Nana Kobina Nketsia V, praised Mr. Buah for demonstrating humility, integrity, and a deep commitment to service. He emphasised that the Minister’s approach to mediation reflected core African values essential for unity and progress.

“Real honour lies in humility, wisdom, peace, and love in unity. You have demonstrated that humility is the foundation of leadership,” Nana Nketsia noted, highlighting Mr. Buah’s empathy, sincerity, and integrity as key to restoring harmony.

He further linked the Minister’s efforts to the Pan-African vision championed by Kwame Nkrumah, particularly the pursuit of unity and self-reliance as pillars of national development.

In his acceptance remarks, Mr. Buah expressed appreciation for the recognition but stressed that the region could ill afford continued division. He pointed out that the prolonged stalemate had cost the region valuable development opportunities.

“This region needs to be united. Every time there is division, we lose opportunities to drive development,” he said, urging traditional authorities to prioritise cohesion over conflict, especially costly legal battles.

Also present at the ceremony, Western Regional Minister Joseph Nelson commended Mr. Buah’s leadership, describing his intervention as a model for public service. He recalled that the situation at the House had been a major concern just a year ago, adding that the Minister’s efforts had helped create a more stable and peaceful environment.

The resolution of the dispute is expected to restore the House’s effectiveness, enabling it to function as a cohesive body and better champion the development agenda of the Western Region.
