Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is the former President of Ghana

Private legal practitioner, Martin Kpebu, has tonguelashed former president Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, accusing him of mismanaging Ghana and leaving the nation in a fragile state.

In a video making rounds on social media, Kpebu averred that Akufo-Addo failed to deliver on key promises, particularly in the fight against corruption and constitutional reforms.

He explained that the former president blocked constitutional review efforts for eight years, denying citizens the chance to elect Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) to strengthen accountability.

On corruption, Kpebu argued that Akufo-Addo’s record was worse than his predecessor, John Dramani Mahama.

He pointed to the Corruption Perception Index, noting that Akufo-Addo failed to outperform Mahama in any of his eight years in office. According to him, Mahama also fared better on the economy, press freedom, and democracy indices.

“It’s what he’s done to all of us Ghanaians. Misgoverned us, retrogressed us. Look, when he took constitutional review for eight years, he didn’t allow us to do constitutional review that would enable us to elect MMDCs, to make them more accountable. All the proposals that were brought up in the FIADU commission, he didn’t implement any. Look, corruption, he couldn’t fight corruption. He said he’s better than JM. Yet when he came, out of his eight years, on the corruption perception index, even for one year, he couldn’t beat JM. One year, he couldn’t even beat JM,” he said.

He claimed the former president deceived citizens and vowed to continue criticising him until he offers an unqualified apology to Ghanaians.

“When somebody is given so much, you know, power, you know, we voted for him thinking that JM is not good. And then he came and did worse than JM. That’s how he will continue to mention him and hold him accountable. So it’s not about personal hatred,” he stated.

He added that; “He [Akuo-Addo] has to come with apologies upon apology, kneel down, to show that we are not fools. You don’t deceive citizens like that.”

Martin Kpebu further described Akufo-Addo as the “mother serpent of corruption”, stressing that leaders cannot deceive citizens with promises of reform only to deliver the opposite.
