Ghanaian singer and songwriter Wendy Shay has opened up about the difficulties that come with mentoring another person’s child, pointing to parental interference as one of the biggest challenges.

In a post shared on her official TikTok page, the award-winning musician wrote, “The hardest part of mentoring someone else’s child is often the parents’ interference. What’s all this?”—a statement that has since stirred debate on social media.

The post triggered mixed reactions online, with some users advising Wendy Shay to step back and allow the children to be raised and guided solely by their parents. Others, however, argued that if her mentorship was inappropriate, parental interference would be understandable, but if she was doing well, there would be little reason for concern.

It will be recalled that Wendy Shay previously took two young girls, Tracy Shay and Korkor Shay, under her care, pledging to mentor and support them until they complete their tertiary education. So far, the singer has remained committed to that promise and continues to cater for their needs.

Although her relationship with the girls has generated public discussion over the months, this marks the first time Wendy Shay has publicly expressed concerns about the challenges surrounding the mentorship.
