Ghanaian musician Wendy Shay has sparked public discussion after a Facebook post in which she reflected on the challenges of mentoring other people’s children.

This has raised questions about her relationship with two young influencers, Tracy Shay and Korkor Shay.

In the post, the singer spoke candidly about the difficulties that come with guiding minors who are not one’s own, particularly when parents get involved.

“The hardest part of mentoring someone else’s child is often the parents’ interference. What’s all this?” she wrote on Facebook.

The post has led some social media users to speculate about possible issues between Wendy Shay and the two children, both of whom have appeared with her at events and performances in recent months.

Wendy Shay’s association with Tracy Shay first drew national attention after the young girl went viral for dancing energetically to the singer’s hit song Too Late during the All Ashaiman Schools Festival. The video, which was widely shared, caught Wendy Shay’s attention.

Following the viral moment and amid backlash directed at the child online, Wendy Shay paid a visit to Tracy’s school, where she announced her decision to sponsor the young girl’s education from Class Five through to the university level. She explained at the time that her intention was to protect Tracy’s future and ensure her education remained the priority.

The singer has, however, faced criticism from sections of the public for keeping Tracy and Korkor around her and allowing them to perform at some of her shows, with critics arguing that the children should be shielded from the pressures of the entertainment industry.

Korkor Shay, like Tracy, became known after appearing in videos celebrating Wendy Shay’s music and performances. While less has been publicly documented about her background, Wendy Shay has previously indicated that her involvement with Korkor is driven by mentorship and encouragement rather than any formal arrangement.

Wendy Shay has not indicated that there is a rift between her and the children, but her post has reignited conversations about celebrity mentorship, parental influence and the balance between nurturing young talent and protecting children’s wellbeing.
