The traditional authority overseeing Tepa has disclosed that the final funeral rites of the late highlife icon Daddy Lumba remain on hold due to a pending hearing before the Asantehene.

During an appearance on UTV’s United Showbiz, Nana Adusei Atwenewa Ampem II explained that a major customary process has been triggered after the late musician’s sister, Ernestina Fosuh, invoked Otumfuo’s Great Vow (Ntam Kɛseɛ) — a revered oath within Asante tradition.

According to the chief, invoking this vow automatically places the matter under the direct jurisdiction of Otumfuo Osei Tutu II or another royal authority he appoints to examine the dispute. Until that determination is made, the funeral procedures cannot move forward.

He outlined that the vow is typically used when someone demands clarity or truth in a dispute. Once it is invoked, every party connected to the issue must appear before the Asantehene’s court or an authorized representative so the truth is formally established.

Responding to speculation that the chief of Daddy Lumba’s hometown could independently resolve the matter, the Tepamanhene dismissed that option, stating that the case rises above local jurisdiction as soon as the Great Vow is called into effect.

However, he noted that the hometown chief may still petition the Asantehene. If Otumfuo permits, the matter could be settled locally under his direct authority.

The Tepamanhene assured that once summons are issued, the proceedings are usually swift, giving hope that the dispute may be cleared soon so the funeral arrangements can continue without prolonged delays.
