General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, has called on his party to lead by example if it truly intends to reset Ghana.

Speaking on PM Express on JoyNews on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, Kwetey said the NDC cannot promise national transformation while maintaining practices it criticises in others.

“You can’t simply be attacking your opponent when you were doing exactly the same thing as your opponent. That hypocrisy is not something we should encourage,” he stated.

Kwetey acknowledged that pushing for internal reforms may come at a personal political cost but insisted that he is prepared to sacrifice his ambitions for the greater good of the party and the country.

“I know it may not be a very easy path. But it’s a path some of us are willing to fight for even at the cost of my political ambition,” he said.

According to him, his message to party delegates is rooted in the NDC’s own values, particularly the principle of placing Ghana first — a theme captured in the party’s anthem.

“That term simply talks about the need for us to always place our country as number one. What am I really doing? I’m simply telling the delegate this is what the party you belong to is all about,” he explained.

He stressed that even if some members do not fully appreciate those values, it does not justify abandoning them.

“The fact that you may not fully understand doesn’t mean effort must not be made to help us all remember and be anchored on those values,” he added.

Kwetey argued that the party’s pledge to reset Ghana places an obligation on the NDC to first address its own shortcomings.

“We have said we are resetting the country. And to reset the country means business as usual has to be over,” he said.
