Member of Parliament for Nhyiaeso, Dr. Stephen Amoah, has thrown his support behind Kennedy Agyapong as the New Patriotic Party’s strongest contender for the 2028 presidential election. In a recent interview on Citi FM’s Eyewitness News, Amoah described Agyapong as the party’s “Joshua,” suggesting he is the one to lead the NPP to victory.
Amoah pointed to Agyapong’s performance in the last flagbearer race, where he secured 37.4% of the votes despite lacking institutional backing. He noted that the former Assin Central MP had no visible support from government machinery, Members of Parliament, or constituency executives — yet still managed to rally significant grassroots momentum.
According to Amoah, Agyapong’s popularity has only grown since then. He claims that in the Ashanti Region alone, over 67% of coordinators are now openly backing Agyapong. With polling station agents and coordinators forming the bulk of the party’s voting base, Amoah believes Agyapong stands out as the most favored candidate.
While acknowledging that other contenders are capable, Amoah emphasized that electoral success in Ghana often hinges on more than just performance — citing regional dynamics and voter sentiment as key factors. He believes the timing and momentum are aligned in Agyapong’s favor.
The endorsement adds fuel to ongoing discussions within the NPP about its future leadership, especially as party figures like Bryan Acheampong call for mutual respect and discipline in the presidential race.
