In a recent development, popular artist Mr. Drew has explained why he left Akosombo Easter Show even before the event could start.
According to a statement released by the artiste’s team, they were awaiting the call from the organizers while lodging at a guesthouse.
The statement reveals that despite no communication from the organizers, they were approached at 12:26 am and asked to join a convoy through the town to attract patrons to the event. However, Mr. Drew and his team expressed their willingness to join the convoy only if they were paid the outstanding 50% of their agreed fee.
Unfortunately, the organizers refused to make the payment and insisted that Mr. Drew attend the event first, citing low turnout as the reason for withholding payment.
By 1:00 am, the event had yet to start, and supporting acts were still awaiting their performance slots. After waiting for an additional 50 minutes without any communication regarding payment, Mr. Drew and his team made the decision to leave Akosombo at 1:50 am.
Mr Drew said part of their agreement was for the show to commence at 8:00 pm while he mounts the stage at 11:30pm and closes out the show; however, the concert had not commenced as of 12:00 am on April 2.
The organisers of the show have sued Mr Drew for not performing.
