Why Veteran Broadcaster Stopped Supporting Shatta Wale

Legendary broadcaster Ken Addy has opened up about a turning point that caused him to distance himself from Dancehall star Shatta Wale. Addy, once a strong admirer of the musician, revealed that his support diminished when the artiste began publicly launching aggressive verbal attacks on the media industry.

He noted that the comments Shatta Wale directed toward journalists in the past were extremely offensive and unacceptable, especially considering the media’s role in shaping the success of creative talents. This experience prompted Addy to withdraw his public support for the artiste during that period.

According to Addy, time has since softened his stance. When Shatta Wale received a traditional honour in the Northern Region in 2019 as the “Dancehall Naa,” he felt it was the right moment to let go of the bitterness and reconnect with the remarkable entertainer he had once supported.

Despite this renewed admiration, Addy made it clear that strong affection for the artiste does not mean endorsing behaviour that undermines his status or influence in the music industry. He still expects Shatta Wale to uphold values befitting the respected position he occupies.

During the same discussion on Showbiz A-Z, Shatta Movement’s public relations representative Sammy Flex offered a different take. Sammy Flex defended the musician, suggesting that some of Shatta Wale’s actions were reactions to negative treatment he felt he received from sections of the media.

The debate highlighted a longstanding and complex relationship between Shatta Wale and the press — one that continues to spark strong opinions on both sides.
