Minority Leader of Parliament, Alexander Kwamina Afenyo-Markin, has openly criticized the Ghana Police Service for transferring the Bono Regional NPP Chairman, Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye DCE, into the custody of the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB).
Speaking to journalists on Friday, September 12, 2025, outside the Accra Circuit Court, Afenyo-Markin questioned why the police, who are actively investigating Abronye, bypassed their own cells and chose to keep him at the NIB facility.
According to him, Abronye had honored a police invitation on September 8, appeared with his lawyers, and cooperated during interrogation. Yet, after just an hour of questioning, he was suddenly transferred to the NIB.
The Minority Leader revealed that checks by his team showed that the NIB was not handling any investigation into the case but was simply “holding” Abronye on behalf of the police. He therefore accused the police of possibly attempting to punish the outspoken politician by detaining him in a facility that has no investigative role in the matter.
The situation has sparked growing debate about the treatment of Abronye and whether due process is being fully respected in the ongoing case.
