Residents of Benin City were left stunned after a disturbing incident involving a grandmother who reportedly inflicted severe injuries on her young granddaughter over a plate of Indomie noodles.
The child, driven by hunger, ate some noodles despite being warned not to. In a shocking act of punishment, the elderly woman placed the girl’s hands directly on a gas stove, leaving the child with serious burns.
A concerned individual who witnessed the aftermath of the incident alerted the Edo State Ministry of Women Affairs.
Responding swiftly, officials from the Ministry intervened, secured the arrest of the grandmother, and ensured the injured child was taken to the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH) for urgent medical care.
Authorities have confirmed that investigations are ongoing, and the woman is expected to face legal consequences for her actions.
The case has triggered public outrage and renewed calls for tougher penalties against child abuse.
