The Patuxent River (MD) Chapter of The Links Incorporated, a group of women in the diaspora resident in the United States of America (USA), has handed over a mechanised borehole with polytank, renovated washrooms and replaced classroom roofing at a ceremony in the school last Tuesday.
The group also presented the school with computers for its ICT laboratory, assorted books and stationery for the pupils and parcels to all the 21 teaching staff, all at a total cost of GH¢220,000.
The project was facilitated by TEAM CSR, a local non-profit organisation.
The handover ceremony was witnessed by 20 members of the group from the USA, who fully participated in the cultural activities performed by the cultural troupe of the school.
Turning point
The Head Teacher of the school, Ellis Tsidi Korku Kwawu, in his welcome statement, said the facilities provided by the group marked a turning point in the life of the school.
He explained that before the three critical interventions by the group, water shortage, poor sanitation and flooded classrooms were daily challenges that affected health, attendance and effective teaching and learning.
The President, Patuxent River (MD) Chapter, The Links, Incorporated, Dr Cheryl Simmons Gray, noted that the handover ceremony also marked the celebration of 11 years of the group’s partnership, shared purpose and enduring connection between their chapter and the school’s community, especially meaningful moments which coincided with the 70th anniversary of the school.
She said the borehole represents far more than access to water because it represents life, health, dignity and opportunity.
Dr Gray stated that their work at Twedaase Primary School reflects the mission of The Links, incorporated to uplift communities, foster global connection and create sustainable change, stressing that “what we have built together over the past 11 years is a shining example of global sisterhood in action.”
The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of TEAM CSR, Jonathan Akuamuah, lauded the women’s group for their generosity and commitment.
