Vice President Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang has assured that government’s much-anticipated Women’s Development Bank will soon be rolled out, marking a major step toward strengthening women’s economic empowerment across the country.

Speaking during a courtesy call on Torgbui Sri III ahead of the Norvikporhbe Za Festival, the Vice President emphasized that while significant progress has been made on the initiative, authorities are taking a careful and deliberate approach to ensure its long-term success.

She stressed that the bank is designed to support women-led businesses with access to finance and essential resources, noting that women’s economic development directly benefits families and communities. According to her, the initiative represents a critical investment in national growth, as empowering women translates into broader social and economic stability.

Prof. Opoku-Agyemang highlighted that although the process has been complex, government remains committed to delivering a robust and effective institution. “It is something very important, and we must take our time to get it right,” she indicated, adding that Ghanaians will soon hear concrete updates on its rollout.

Beyond economic empowerment, the Vice President also used the occasion to draw attention to the urgent need for inclusive education, particularly for children with special needs. She underscored the importance of recognizing and supporting children who learn and develop differently, describing them as “special creations” who deserve equal opportunities to thrive.

She pointed out gaps in the current system, especially in healthcare and education, where professionals often lack the training to adequately support children with hearing impairments and other special needs. This, she noted, can hinder effective communication and care.

To address this, she called for improved training for teachers, healthcare workers, and caregivers, stressing that early intervention and specialized support are key to helping such children function and integrate fully into society.

The Vice President reaffirmed the government’s commitment to strengthening inclusive policies and fostering collaboration among stakeholders to ensure that no child is left behind.

Her remarks signal a dual focus by the government, advancing women’s economic independence through the upcoming bank while also pushing for a more inclusive and supportive environment for children with special needs.
