The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Bosiako, also known as Chairman Wontumi, has issued a stern warning against COP Kofi Boakye, a former Ashanti Regional Police Commander.
Wontumi has accused the retired police officer, who is allegedly aligned with the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), of covertly training individuals with the aim of disrupting the upcoming general elections.
During a broadcast on his Wontumi Radio, Chairman Wontumi expressed his concerns about Kofi Boakye’s alleged activities and called on the public to remain vigilant.
He went so far as to encourage citizens to arrest the former commander if they encountered him, claiming he would personally hand him over to the police.
Wontumi emphasized that he would hold Kofi Boakye accountable for any unrest that might occur in the region, stating that he considers the area to be under his watch and control.
In his broadcast, Wontumi accused Boakye of previously lobbying for the position of Inspector General of Police (IGP) in an NPP government, only to now turn around and allegedly support NDC efforts to incite violence.
The politician warned that if Boakye continued with such actions, he would face serious consequences, as Wontumi believes he has the power and influence to confront him.
This bold statement comes at a critical time, with tensions rising as political parties gear up for the next general election.
Chairman Wontumi’s public call for a citizen’s arrest of a prominent former law enforcement official has sparked significant attention and raised concerns about how such political confrontations may affect the pre-election climate in the Ashanti Region.
“Kofi Boakye, if there is any disturbance here, we will hold you responsible. This place belongs to us. You were lobbying for the IGP position in an NPP government, and today you are the one training NDC mercenaries to perpetrate violence. I am going to deal with you. I am stronger than you, I will deal with you, Kofi Boakye.
“If you meet Kofi Boakye anywhere, arrest him and bring him to me on citizen’s arrest. I will hand him over to the police… We have a lot of things we can do, but we won’t do them. However, if he goes little, we will go bigger. This is a strong warning.”
