Togbe Afede XIV, the Agbogbomefia of the Asogli State, has been appointed as the Chair of the Council of Global Advisors for the Yale School of Management (SOM).
The appointment, which took effect on 16th February 2026, places the Ghanaian traditional leader and business mogul at the forefront of the Ivy League institution’s international strategy.
The Yale SOM, the graduate business school of Yale University, selected Togbe Afede XIV based on his “admirable leadership, experience, life and career”.
The Council of Global Advisors consists of a diverse group of outstanding alumni and non-alumni from across the globe. Their primary mandate is to advise the Dean and senior leadership on strategies to expand the school’s brand and reach on an international scale.
As Chair, Togbe Afede XIV will play a pivotal role in:
- Strategic Leadership: Working closely with Dean Kerwin Charles and other senior leadership to advance the school’s core aspirations.
- Priority Setting: Helping to shape the Council’s priorities and overseeing its overall direction.
- Member Engagement: Guiding the engagement of fellow advisors and contributing high-level expertise to school initiatives.
Beyond administrative oversight, Togbe’s appointment is expected to provide critical insights into strengthening student recruitment across diverse regions, particularly in Africa. His role will involve elevating global awareness of Yale SOM’s mission and deepening partnerships with organisations around the world.
Togbe Afede XIV will serve an initial three-year term with the possibility of renewal. Additionally, he will act as an ex-officio member of the wider SOM Board of Advisors, further integrating his expertise into the school’s governance.
The appointment is seen as a testament to Togbe’s multifaceted career, which has successfully blended traditional leadership with international business excellence, now culminating in this senior advisory role at one of the world’s most prestigious universities.
