The son of the late gospel music legend Yaw Sarpong has revealed that his father passed away without knowing about the death of his close associate, Maame Tiwaa.
Speaking in an interview Okay FM on January 22, 2026, he explained that the family intentionally withheld the information due to concerns about Yaw Sarpong’s health and emotional wellbeing at the time.
According to him, although news of Maame Tiwaa’s passing was widely circulated on social media, Yaw Sarpong remained unaware because he was not active online.
“No one told him about Maame Tiwaa’s death. Everything was on social media, but because he wasn’t active, he didn’t know,” he said.
He further explained that the decision was influenced by the deep and long-standing bond the two shared, which dated back to their youth and lasted for decades.
“My father and Maame Tiwaa knew each other from their young days until they grew old. The relationship and bond they shared were very strong,” he noted.
The family, he said, feared that the news would negatively affect Yaw Sarpong’s health and slow his recovery.
“We knew the news would break him, and since we wanted him to recover faster, we had to keep it from him,” he added.
