Ghanaian politician and lawyer, Martin Amidu has reminded President Mahama of his promise before the 2024 general election.
The former Special Prosecutor quoted the president’s statement that “Let me be clear: we will honour our promise to pay our hardworking farmers 70 per cent of the world market price of cocoa” to buttress his assertion.
According to Martin Amidu, “Government cannot promise dignity and fair reward and later reduce the agreed price without consultation”, adding that “The farmers voted based on these assurances.”
He stated in furtherance that “You cannot seek electoral trust on firm undertakings and retreat when implementation becomes difficult”.
