Controversial relationship counsellor George Lutterodt has once again sparked debate with his latest advice to married men, cautioning them against allowing their wives and mothers to form close friendships.
According to him, such relationships could have dire consequences, including leading to an early death for the husband.
Speaking during an appearance on The Toast Show monitored by News and Vibes, Lutterodt insisted that any man who permits his wife and mother to become close friends is setting himself up for trouble.
He argued that this dynamic disrupts the natural balance of marriage, as it allows the mother to continue exerting control over her son through his wife. In his view, marriage represents a transition where a man leaves his parents, particularly his mother, to establish a new life with his spouse.
Allowing a deep bond between the wife and mother, he claimed, prevents this necessary separation.
Lutterodt stressed that a mother’s influence should not extend into her son’s marriage, as this could lead to manipulation and interference. He suggested that if a wife and mother-in-law become too close, the wife might begin adopting the same authority and control over her husband that his mother once had.
For this reason, he asserted that men must ensure a clear boundary exists between their wives and their mothers to maintain their independence in marriage.
His comments were met with immediate criticism from other panelists on the show, with one person challenging his perspective by suggesting that a positive relationship between a wife and mother-in-law could actually be beneficial to the man. However, Lutterodt dismissed this counterargument, maintaining that such closeness ultimately works against the man’s best interests.
His remarks have since triggered widespread reactions, with some social media users supporting his viewpoint, while others have strongly disagreed, arguing that a harmonious relationship between a wife and mother-in-law fosters unity and stability in a marriage.
Despite the backlash, Lutterodt remains firm in his beliefs, continuing to offer his often-unconventional relationship advice.
