What began as a routine journey for a young couple in Katsina State in Nigeria ended in heartbreak after a violent crash claimed their lives and those of three others.
The accident happened on Saturday, August 9, 2025, along the busy Kurfi-Katsina road. Abdulsalami Yusuf Kankara, 37, and his wife, Malama Zainab, had been on their way home after visiting another couple in Kurfi Local Government Area to console them over a recent miscarriage.
On their return trip, tragedy struck when a motorcycle carrying three people swerved into the path of their vehicle. The impact was catastrophic — the motorcyclist, his two passengers, and Zainab died at the scene.
Abdulsalami, along with two other occupants of the vehicle, was rushed to hospital for treatment. Despite efforts to save him, Abdulsalami succumbed to his injuries shortly after arrival.
Relatives say the couple’s marriage was only a few months old, and the community has been left reeling from the sudden loss. Those who knew Abdulsalami described him as a man of kindness and generosity, making the tragedy even harder to bear.
The collision has reignited concerns about road safety along the Kurfi-Katsina route, where traffic accidents remain a persistent threat to motorists and pedestrians alike.
