A District Court in Assin Fosu has directed that a psychological evaluation be conducted on 19-year-old Shadrack Kwame Gyamfi, who is accused of killing his 57-year-old aunt, Adwoa Attaa, at Assin Dompim in the Central Region.

The court explained that the findings of the assessment will help establish whether the accused was mentally competent when the incident happened — a crucial factor in determining criminal responsibility.

The confrontation reportedly took place on Monday, November 3, 2025, at around 5:00 pm. According to prosecutors, the teenager admitted that he attacked the woman during an argument after she declined to give him GH¢100 he requested for food. Investigators say he dragged her into her room and assaulted her until she lost consciousness, then strangled her to ensure she did not survive.

He was arrested soon after the body was discovered bearing marks consistent with a violent struggle, including bruises and obvious signs of strangulation. Police immediately launched a detailed investigation into the circumstances of the killing.

The accused has been remanded into custody for 16 days while health professionals conduct the ordered psychiatric review. He is expected to appear in court again on November 20, 2025, after the report is submitted to assist the next phase of the trial.
