A storm of unrest has swept through a Mamprusi community, with dozens of furious youth demanding the immediate arrest of Seidu Abagre, the Mamprusi Chief, over accusations linking him to a violent incident that left multiple people injured and properties destroyed.
The youth, visibly angered by what they described as unchecked violence, gathered outside the chief’s palace, chanting war cries and waving placards emblazoned with “Justice Now!” and “Seidu Must Go!”
They claim that Chief Abagre orchestrated the mayhem and is to blame for the growing fear among residents.
Ibrahim Fuseini, the protest leader, declared, “We’ve endured silence for too long. Families are suffering, the community is in distress, yet the man we hold accountable remains untouchable.”
In response, Chief Abagre denied the allegations, attributing them to rival factions intent on smearing his name. He called for calm, urging the youth to allow law enforcement to carry out an impartial investigation.
Despite these reassurances, the unrest only grew. A heavy police presence surrounded the palace, as officers formed a barrier to prevent the protest from escalating.
Meanwhile, local elders convened urgent meetings to address the situation, while the District Chief Executive appealed to the youth to remain patient and let the authorities handle the matter.
The protest, however, is just the latest manifestation of a deepening rift within the community, fueled by long-standing frustration over alleged corruption and abuse of power.
