A donation meant to support the Dambai Zongo community during Ramadan has been flatly rejected, following accusations against its donor, Mustapha Gbande.
The Deputy Operations Director at the Office of the President and Deputy General Secretary of the NDC reportedly sent food items, including rice, Milo, and milk, as part of a goodwill gesture.
However, the community refused the donation, citing Gbande’s alleged statement that he would use his influence to prevent a Zongo candidate from becoming a Municipal Chief Executive (MCE).
This remark, seen as discriminatory, has fueled resentment, with many residents insisting they will not accept charity from someone they believe does not respect them.
A viral video shows community members openly rejecting the donation, emphasizing that their dignity cannot be compromised by political handouts.
The incident has sparked conversations about whether political figures only engage with communities during festive periods while disregarding their concerns at other times.
While Gbande has previously been credited for efforts to unify factions within the NDC, this controversy has created friction with the Dambai Zongo community. Many now await his response to the backlash and whether he will attempt to repair relations.
