Police in the Eastern Region have launched a full-scale investigation following a deadly shooting in Asiyaw, located within the Nsawam-Adoagyiri Municipality, that left five men dead.
The violent episode, which occurred on April 29, 2025, is believed to have stemmed from a heated conflict over a sandwinning concession in the area.
When officers from the Eastern South Regional Police Command arrived on the scene, they discovered the lifeless bodies of five adult males, all bearing gunshot wounds.
The victims were declared dead at the scene and later transferred to the Police Hospital mortuary for identification, autopsy, and preservation.
In the wake of the tragedy, police also recovered several items believed to be linked to the confrontation.
Among them were two vehicles—a Toyota Tacoma and a Toyota Tundra—as well as a pump action shotgun loaded with 17 live cartridges. Authorities also found four used cartridges, three spent 7.62/39mm shells, a 9mm shell casing, and five heavy-duty motorbikes.
Law enforcement officials are actively working to trace those responsible for the attack and have vowed to bring all culprits to justice.
The incident has heightened tensions in the area, with residents calling for increased security and stricter regulation of land and natural resource disputes.
