A dramatic arrest unfolded in Ghana’s Western Region after three individuals were taken into custody when a submachine gun and live ammunition were discovered aboard a commercial passenger bus.
The suspects—identified as Hakeem Imoro, Imoro Tahiru, and Nurideen Wahab—were travelling in a Grand Bird bus bearing registration number AS 4431-22 en route to Wassa Akropong when the firearm was uncovered.
The arrest took place on April 30, 2025, at Bowodie-Wassa Akropong, where officers from the Western Central Regional Police Command intercepted the vehicle during a routine check.
Their search led to the shocking discovery of an SMG rifle accompanied by 21 rounds of ammunition.
During police questioning, Hakeem Imoro, who was found in direct possession of the weapon, claimed that it was entrusted to him by his employer for safekeeping. However, authorities are treating the matter as unlawful possession of arms and ammunition, with all three men now in custody as investigations continue.
The police have confirmed that the suspects are cooperating with investigators and will be formally charged and presented before court in the coming days.
The arrest has raised fresh concerns about the transportation of illegal firearms through public routes and the potential threat such activities pose to public safety.
