Some 6,000 young Ghanaians are set to receive accelerated skills training under a new partnership between the government and the INSTED Foundation.
The initiative, dubbed “Skills Farm”, was formalised on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) led by the Minister for Labour, Jobs and Employment, Dr Abdul-Rashid Hassan Pelpuo.
The programme is designed to equip participants with practical, job-ready skills within an estimated nine-month training cycle and prepare them for immediate employment.
“Ghanaians are eager to work and committed to developing themselves, but the conditions that allow them to fully express their ambitions are often absent,” Dr Pelpuo said at the signing ceremony.
“This partnership is designed to create those opportunities and provide the needed foundation for young people to succeed.”
He noted that the Skills Farm concept builds on prior engagements with the Foundation and aligns with the Ministry’s mandate to promote job creation.
“The Skills Farm initiative will enable individuals to acquire employable skills within months and transition into the world of work,” the Minister added.
A representative of the Foundation, Adu Boahin, said the intervention responds to Africa’s youth unemployment challenge.
“Africa has one of the fastest-growing youth populations, and this calls for bold and scalable solutions,” Mr Boahin stated.
He said the initial phase will train between 5,000 and 6,000 young people, with plans to scale up to between 20,000 and 25,000 annually.
The training will target individuals with basic education and cover multiple skill tracks to meet labour market demands.
The MoU paves the way for implementation and funding arrangements, with both parties working to scale up skills development and improve employment outcomes nationwide.
Dr Pelpuo reaffirmed the government’s commitment to creating pathways for young people to realise their full potential.
