Ghanaian actor and football executive Yaw Dabo has revealed that he still charges the same fees for movie roles, despite the Kumawood industry’s growing focus on digital platforms like YouTube.
In an interview with blogger ZionFelix, the actor addressed assumptions that his popularity or the shift to online distribution might have driven up his rates.
According to Dabo, nothing has changed when it comes to how much he charges for appearances in films.
He noted that many producers still contact him directly for roles, and as long as his schedule allows, he willingly participates.
Dabo also expressed that his consistent pricing has not discouraged filmmakers from working with him.
Touching on the economics of digital content, Dabo acknowledged that the YouTube model has become more financially rewarding compared to the outdated CD distribution method.
He added that actors involved in online productions are often compensated fairly, and the system works well for many in the industry.
Yaw Dabo’s comments come at a time when more Kumawood films are premiering on YouTube rather than being sold on physical media, marking a clear shift in how the local film industry operates.
