The Bono Regional Police Command has arrested a 32-year-old man in connection with a brazen vehicle break-in and theft that shook residents of Baakoniaba, a suburb of Sunyani, earlier this week.
The suspect, identified as Sulemana Adams and widely known in the area by the nickname “Zambia”, is alleged to have smashed his way into a Toyota Highlander belonging to a staff member of the Sunyani Municipal Hospital. According to police, the break-in took place on the evening of Sunday, August 10, 2025, while the vehicle was parked within the victim’s residential compound.
Investigators say Adams shattered the rear door glass of the SUV to gain access before making off with a haul of valuable items. Among the reported stolen property were an HP laptop computer, a power bank, an external hard drive, and significant amounts of cash: GH₵11,000, €80, and unspecified sums in Kenyan Shillings and South African Rands.
Chief Inspector Thomas Akeelah, Public Relations Officer for the Bono Regional Police Command, said in a statement that swift intelligence work played a key role in cracking the case. Following a tip-off, police placed the suspect under continuous 24-hour surveillance. Two days later, on August 12, officers moved in during a carefully coordinated undercover operation in Kuotokom, another Sunyani suburb. Adams was arrested without incident.
During questioning, police say the suspect admitted to committing the theft. His cooperation led officers to recover a substantial portion of the stolen goods, including the HP laptop, GH₵10,710 in cash, €10, $32, CFA 2,000, and various foreign coins. The external hard drive and power bank were also retrieved.
The arrest has been hailed by local authorities as a demonstration of the effectiveness of intelligence-led policing in the Bono Region. “This is a clear example of how community information and proactive surveillance can yield positive results,” the police statement noted.
Investigations remain ongoing as officers work to determine whether Adams may be linked to other unsolved theft cases in the municipality. Police have confirmed that the suspect will be arraigned before court once the necessary legal processes are complete.
Residents of Baakoniaba have expressed relief at the swift action, with some describing the incident as a wake-up call for tighter security in residential areas.
