  • Duncan-Williams encouraged believers to use prayer as a weapon to break spiritual and physical barriers.

Archbishop Nicholas Duncan-Williams has revisited a harrowing chapter from Ghana’s revolutionary past, revealing how a prayer gathering at Aburi Gardens led to his arrest and detention. The founder and General Overseer of Action Chapel International shared the story during a sermon now circulating widely on social media.

According to the revered preacher, he and fellow ministers—including Robert Ampiah Coffie—had gone to the mountains to pray during the height of the revolution. But their spiritual retreat was abruptly interrupted when soldiers stormed the area, fired warning shots, and ordered them to lie down. The group was then taken to the Aburi police station and locked up for days without charge.

Duncan-Williams recalled a deep spiritual agitation before the arrest, which he later interpreted as a sign of spiritual warfare. He told his colleagues that their detention was not merely political—it was a “demonic arrest.” In response, the group engaged in four hours of fervent intercession, seeking divine intervention.

Their breakthrough came when a lieutenant, passing through the area, stopped by the station and inquired about the detainees. Upon learning that a pastor was among them, he ordered their immediate release, instructing the police to inform the soldiers that he had authorised the discharge.

The Archbishop credited the power of prayer for their unexpected freedom and used the testimony to encourage his congregation to rely on spiritual discipline in times of adversity. His message resonated deeply with listeners, many of whom see his life story as a testament to faith under fire.
