In a shocking development in the Oti Region, one of two inmates who broke free from the Kadjebi Police Station on Saturday afternoon has been recaptured, while authorities continue the search for the second.
The daring escape occurred when the suspects took advantage of a lone police officer on duty, forcefully breaking out of their cell and physically assaulting her before fleeing. The officer, identified as L/Cpl. Gyapong, was reportedly beaten severely and was rushed to St. Mary Theresa Catholic Hospital in Dodi-Papase, where she is receiving medical treatment and reportedly responding to care.
Superintendent Frank Nana Asomaning, the Kadjebi District Police Commander, confirmed the escape and the subsequent capture of one suspect on Sunday, September 21. He stated that the search for the remaining fugitive is ongoing and appealed to the public for information, announcing a reward of GHC2,000 for tips leading to his arrest.
Police investigations into the escape are currently underway, as authorities work to understand how the suspects managed to overpower the lone officer and breach the station’s security.
