Paris Saint-Germain forward Ousmane Dembele may now be celebrated as the 2025 Ballon d’Or winner, but Ghana’s rap icon Sarkodie remembers a time when he didn’t even recognize him.
The rapper recounted that his first and only meeting with Dembele happened in New York back in 2022, when he linked up with Barcelona star Memphis Depay, a close friend of his. Depay introduced Dembele to Sarkodie, but the musician admitted he had no idea who the young winger was at the time.
According to Sarkodie, it was his team who later explained Dembele’s football stature, prompting him to research and realize he had just spent time with a future superstar. “He came across as very humble,” Sarkodie noted, adding that he initially thought Dembele was just another friend hanging out with Depay.
Fast forward to 2025, Dembele has been crowned the best footballer in the world after leading PSG to a treble-winning season. Sarkodie says he intends to reach out to congratulate him personally.
Away from football, Sarkodie is shifting focus to music, with his much-anticipated Rapperholic Homecoming concert scheduled for September 27, 2024, at Kumasi’s Baba Yara Sports Stadium.
