- Kumawood actor Wayoosi has called on President Mahama to seek a third term.
- Wayoosi praised Mahama as Ghana’s strongest leadership option and compared him to Nkrumah.
- He cited Mahama’s UN speech as evidence of his international influence and success.
- The actor warned that refusing to run again could lead to public demonstrations.
- Ghana’s 1992 Constitution limits presidents to two terms; Mahama has consistently rejected a third-term bid.
- Speculation over a possible third term resurfaced earlier this year following comments from an NDC MP.
Joseph Osei, popularly known in the Ghanaian film industry as Wayoosi, has publicly appealed to President John Dramani Mahama to reconsider stepping down after his second term.
In a social media video, the actor, a longtime supporter of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), urged the president to defy his earlier decision and seek another term in office.

Wayoosi framed Mahama as Ghana’s strongest leader for the nation’s future, even drawing parallels between the current president and Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, the country’s first prime minister.
According to the actor, Ghana’s current political and economic landscape requires Mahama’s continued leadership.
The actor cited Mahama’s diplomatic achievements on the global stage, particularly highlighting the president’s recent address at the 80th Session of the United Nations General Assembly.
Wayoosi claimed Mahama’s speech on immigration policies and Ghana’s international image led to the lifting of visa restrictions by the United States, portraying him as a decisive figure capable of elevating the country.
Wayoosi also warned that ignoring calls for a third term could trigger public protests, suggesting that demonstrators might take to the streets to urge Mahama to extend his tenure.
Despite this appeal, Ghana’s 1992 Constitution limits presidents to two four-year terms, making a third term legally impossible.
Speculation about a possible constitutional amendment surfaced earlier this year after Minority Leader and Effutu MP Alexander Afenyo-Markin suggested in May 2025 that Mahama might consider extending his tenure.
The president has consistently rejected such notions, reaffirming his commitment to constitutional limits and the preservation of democratic principles.
