Ghanaian gospel artiste Nhyira Betty has disclosed that she used to reject modern hairstyles and fashion because she believed they clashed with her Christian faith. She revealed this in an interview on Okay FM on October 30, 2025, explaining how much her views have shifted since she started her music ministry.
According to her, she once felt that musicians should avoid anything that looked flashy. She said she struggled with the idea of dressing stylishly and didn’t think a minister of the gospel needed to follow trends.
During her account, she mentioned that a woman who supported her trip abroad decided to gift her a Brazilian wig as well as a selection of fashionable outfits. However, due to the beliefs she held at the time, she refused to accept them, convinced that such items were spiritually unsafe and could cost her the chance of making it to heaven.
Her mindset later changed when she began attending various programs and realized her appearance could influence how others received her message. She eventually embraced a more refined and contemporary style on her own, crediting that same woman for helping her grow and rethink her assumptions.
Nhyira Betty emphasized that gospel ministers interact closely with diverse audiences, so presenting oneself well matters. She believes a polished look can help communicate the gospel more effectively.
