Veteran Ghanaian Highlife musician, Dada KD, has decided to put an end to his involvement in political discussions, revealing that he no longer has the interest or motivation to speak on matters related to governance or national leadership.
Speaking during an interview with Nana Romeo on Accra FM, the respected singer admitted that his passion for engaging in such conversations has faded over time.
According to him, he now prefers to focus on his music and personal life rather than get caught up in debates that may only bring stress or unnecessary backlash.
He noted that worrying too much about politics could even lead him down a destructive path, something he is intentionally avoiding.
The conversation took a lighthearted turn when a listener jokingly suggested that former President Nana Akufo-Addo should have gifted Dada KD a car, considering his perceived loyalty to the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Dada KD brushed it off with laughter, making it clear that he never received any personal benefits from the party and that his support, if any, was never rooted in expectations of material reward.
Despite being linked by many to the NPP, the Highlife star clarified that he has never held formal membership within the party. He emphasized that, regardless of affiliations, his loyalty remained genuine but unrewarded—a hint that his support over the years may not have been fully appreciated.
Touching briefly on his views regarding former President John Mahama and his return to the political arena, Dada KD refrained from offering any detailed opinions. Instead, he maintained a cautious stance, indicating that only time would reveal what the former leader might bring to the table if given another opportunity to serve.
This decision to retreat from political commentary appears to stem not only from personal fatigue but also from a broader disillusionment with the system, particularly in how musicians like himself are treated. Dada KD has previously spoken about the poor royalties structure in Ghana and how creatives continue to be sidelined despite their contributions to national identity and culture.
With this latest announcement, Dada KD seems to be choosing inner peace and artistic focus over the unpredictable and often thankless world of political discourse. Fans and observers may now expect the legendary artist to direct more of his energy into music, where his voice continues to resonate with many.
