The Ministry of the Interior has announced that official investigations into disturbances recorded during the 2020 and 2024 general elections show that almost half of the fatalities resulted from actions by security officers deployed to maintain order.

Interior Minister Mohammed-Mubarak Muntaka told the media on Tuesday, November 4, 2025, that the Special Investigation Task Force reviewed 12 violent incidents that led to 15 deaths across both election cycles. The findings indicate that seven of the deaths were caused by personnel from the Ghana Armed Forces and the Ghana Police Service during crowd-control operations at polling and collation points.

The report reveals that armed police teams were linked to four of the casualties, while three were connected to military interventions aimed at breaking up confrontations between supporters of the major political parties.

Beyond the fatalities, the task force documented injuries affecting 40 individuals, with the Odododiodio constituency accounting for 15 cases and Techiman South registering nine.
