Wendy Shay’s stop at the Weija Palace ahead of her upcoming 2025 Shay Concert came with an unexpected moment when she declined a traditional drink offered as part of a welcome ritual. The singer visited the palace on November 20, 2025, to seek approval and spiritual support from Nii Ayi Okufobour, the traditional authority of the area where the concert will be held on November 22 at the West Hills Mall.
Her arrival triggered a full cultural reception from the palace, including a display by an oracle who chanted incantations to formally receive her. During the ceremony, a cup of what appeared to be palm wine was handed to her as part of the rite.
Wendy, however, looked clearly uneasy and chose not to sip it, even though some people around her urged her to accept the gesture. After realizing she would not drink it, the oracle poured the liquid out as libation and proceeded to guide her through a brief three-step ritual before escorting her and her team to meet the palace elders.
The singer is gearing up for a major show sponsored by Hisense Ghana and The Luckiest Africa, which is expected to feature several Ghanaian performers, including Showboy, KiDi, Mr Drew, Eno Barony, Larusso, Quamina MP, Kofi Mole, and Lasmid. The concert has become a staple on her annual calendar, and the upcoming edition is drawing considerable anticipation within the Weija community.
