Yaw Darling is a rising Ghanaian musician
Rising Ghanaian musician Yaw Darling has opened up about his experiences being signed to a record label, noting that the demands of being signed are more than those of being an independent artiste.
In an interview with Hitz FM on February 13, 2026, Yaw Darling established, “I struggle more on the record label than when I was independent.”
He stated, however, that being on a label has exposed him to the realities of building a music career.
“I feel like the pressure has prepared me. Because, in my label, you are not going to be pampered. You have to go on the grounds. And I feel like everything has shaped me. You see the real struggles,” he maintained.
2025 TGMAs: Yaw Darling crowned TGMA ‘Unsung Artiste of the Year
The Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMAs) Unsung Artiste of the Year further spoke on the competitive nature of the music industry, explaining that artistes must remain productive and consistent or risk being dropped.
“There’s a lot of work to be done, and I’m not the only artist. So if I stay down, they drop me. We are two. And definitely they are also going to support other people,” he stated.
Yaw Darling credited his current consistent output to this rigorous atmosphere, underscoring that the demands of his label have pushed him to “work non-stop.”
