The People’s Forum has rolled out billboards across Greater Accra, Ashanti, Western North, and Eastern regions to protest the government’s mid-season reduction of the cocoa farmgate price to GH¢2,587 per 64kg bag.
The campaign comes after Finance Minister Dr Cassiel Ato Forson announced on February 12, 2026, that the producer price for the remainder of the 2025/2026 season would be cut by 28.6 per cent, down from GH¢3,625 per bag, citing falling global cocoa prices and financial challenges faced by COCOBOD.
The billboards feature images of weary cocoa farmers among harvested pods, accompanied by the message:
“Our sweat, their excuses. GH¢2,587 per bag? How do we survive?”
The campaign also uses the hashtags #CocoaFarmersMatter and #JusticeForFarmersThe People’s Forum described the billboards as a “wake-up call” to government officials, warning that continued inaction could spark protests from affected cocoa farmers.
Farmers in the Ashanti, Western North, and Eastern regions have expressed frustration, noting that the cut comes amid rising costs for labour, fertiliser, and transportation.
Some say the new price barely covers production expenses, leaving them in financial distress.
