Prominent Ghanaian media personality Gifty Anti has sparked a powerful conversation on women’s empowerment and representation in the media, calling for unity and boldness among women within the spaces they occupy.
In a passionate statement at the Women in Government and Media Forum in Accra on Thursday, 19 February, she emphasised that women do not have to prove themselves to anyone, highlighting the challenges they face in male-dominated industries.
She urged women to focus on lifting one another up rather than competing for validation, noting that women in media and government positions often carry immense responsibility and should support each other in promoting positive change.
Gifty Anti also addressed fellow media professionals, encouraging them to be more thoughtful in their reporting, particularly when portraying women.
“Let’s be critical about how we portray women, not to set them up for embarrassment just to trend,” she said.
“Let’s be bold and audacious to refuse to answer certain questions too.”
She advised women in media to reserve the right to discontinue conversations they feel are veering off the topic they were invited to discuss.
Her message resonated with many, highlighting the need for women to unite and amplify their voices.
“When we put our energies together, there is so much we can do,” she said.
According to her, every successful woman has a story that must be heard, urging women to take control of their narratives and strive for a more equitable society.
