In a strategic move to fortify Ghana’s borders and maximise revenue collection, President John Mahama has appointed Mr. Aaron Kanor as the Acting Commissioner of the Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA).
The appointment, which takes effect immediately, brings a battle-tested veteran with over 30 years of experience in trade facilitation and border security to the forefront of the nation’s economic defence.
Mr. Kanor succeeds Brigadier General Glover Ashong Annan, whose leadership was formally acknowledged by the GRA Board and Management as they welcomed the new chief.
“His appointment as Ag. Commissioner of the Customs Division reflects a career defined by integrity, operational excellence, and strategic leadership,” the GRA stated in an official release on Monday, 23rd February 2026.
Mr. Kanor’s rise to the top of the Customs Division is defined by a deep operational background. Before this elevation, he served as the Officer in Charge of Port Operations, where he was responsible for the critical enforcement of customs laws and the streamlining of revenue collection.
His leadership record spans key sectors across the country, having previously served as:
- Sector Commander at Kotoka International Airport and Wa Collections.
- Chief Revenue Officer in multiple operational zones.
- A lead strategist in intelligence-led operations that successfully dismantled criminal syndicates involved in vehicle identity manipulation and invoice falsification.
A key priority for the new Acting Commissioner will be the continued digital transformation of the division.
Mr. Kanor has already played a pivotal role in implementing electronic valuation systems and strategic projects aimed at reducing cargo clearance turnaround times. These initiatives are seen as essential for aligning Ghana’s customs administration with international best practices and fostering an environment for legitimate trade.
The GRA believes this appointment marks a significant step in strengthening the country’s economic growth through more secure and efficient trade systems.
The Board expressed confidence that Mr. Kanor’s strategic insight would bring a “renewed spirit and direction” to the division as it seeks to improve compliance and national security.
