The Director-General of the Criminal Investigations Department of the Ghana Police Service, COP Lydia Yarkor Donkor, has issued a 24-hour ultimatum to the Headmaster of Swedru School of Business (SWESBUS) to produce the students involved in a violent incident at Agona Swedru, warning that failure to comply will attract serious consequences.
COP Donkor delivered the strong directive during a meeting with the Headmaster, Justice Kojo Frimpong, on February 23, stressing that the school’s reputation was at stake and that the actions captured on video amounted to criminal conduct rather than mere indiscipline.
“If somebody has worn your school uniform to create such a scene, or to conduct himself in such a manner, attacking a fellow human being, it is giving your school a bad name. As a school, you should be concerned to find out who did that and hand them over to the Police. So, I am giving you twenty-four hours to produce the students who attacked the boys. Your twenty-four hours start now,” she stated firmly.
COP Donkor explained that while the police have the capacity to arrest the suspects directly, they were deliberately exercising restraint to avoid storming the school premises.
“As a law enforcement agency, we have options that we use to arrest suspects, but because this is a school environment, we do not want to use one of those means. That is why I am giving you, as school authorities, that task to produce them. And if you fail to produce them, the means by which law enforcement agencies fish out suspects, we are going to adopt them,” she warned.
She further emphasised the gravity of the incident.
“What we are seeing is not acts of indiscipline by students. It is a criminal act which is clearly spelt out in our Criminal Offences Act. I don’t want to storm the school with my men.”
The CID Boss’s visit forms part of the Police Service’s investigations into a violent confrontation that marred the District Schools Athletics Games at Agona Swedru in the Central region on Thursday, February 19, 2026.
What was intended to be a showcase of sporting talent and camaraderie degenerated into chaos when tensions escalated between students of Obrachire Senior High Technical School and SWESBUS.
Eyewitnesses reported that a student from Obrachire SHS was allegedly attacked by a group of SWESBUS students during the disturbance. The victim was reportedly struck with sticks and pelted with stones before bystanders intervened to restore calm. He was subsequently rushed to a health facility for medical attention.
Graphic videos of the incident have since circulated widely on social media, capturing scenes of confusion and a crowd gathered around the injured student. The footage has sparked public outrage and renewed concerns about security at inter-school events.
In a statement posted on its official Facebook page on Monday, February 23, 2026, the Ghana Police Service confirmed it had taken notice of the viral footage and assured the public that investigations were ongoing.
“The Ghana Police Service has sighted a viral video in which a group of people are seen pelting stones at a student. Investigations into the incident are ongoing, and further developments will be communicated in due course. The Service strongly condemns the violence and assures the public that all perpetrators will be identified and brought to justice,” the statement read.
