The Inspector General of Police, Christian Tetteh Yohunu, has assured Ghanaians that those behind the robbery and killing of Andrews Amankwa will face justice, following the arrest of four suspects linked to the attack.
Addressing the media on February 23, 2026, the IGP spoke firmly but with visible concern as he detailed the police response to the February 10 incident at Ohyem Tego Junction, where Amankwa was shot and his Toyota Hilux vehicle taken.
The victim later died at the hospital after being rushed there for treatment.
“As I’ve always assured the good people of Ghana, my team and I remain committed to ensuring that we make life uncomfortable for criminal elements in the country,” he said.

“No matter how far they run or how much they hide, we will continue to pursue them, dismantle their activities and bring them to justice,” he added.
Yohunu explained that a special investigative team was immediately constituted, bringing together the Ashanti Regional Commander, the Regional Intelligence Team, the Anti-Robbery Unit and the Cyber-Vetting Team from CID Headquarters.
The first arrest came on February 18, 2026, when Akwasi Manu was picked up with a mobile phone belonging to the deceased.
He has since been charged with possession of stolen property and remanded into police custody and is expected to reappear in court on March 5.
Subsequent operations led to the arrest of Bashiru Tanko at Atonsu High School Junction in Kumasi on February 19,2026.
Two more suspects, Kwadwo Amponsah and Emmanuel Kwame Appiah, were arrested on February 21 and 22 at Hireso near Buakra and at Danyame Soldier Barracks in Kumasi, respectively. A fourth suspect, believed to be the gang leader, died from gunshot wounds sustained during a police operation.

The IGP extended condolences to the bereaved family and commended both officers and members of the public who volunteered information to aid the investigation.
“Your collective efforts will go a long way towards giving the family closure and ensuring justice is served.
“To the criminals out there, take note of this. We will leave no stone unturned. By every legal means possible, we will continue to come after you. We will pursue you, arrest you, and bring you to justice. That is a promise,” the IGP stated.
