The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) has completed the reconstitution of five Sub-Metropolitan District Councils and Town Councils, in a move aimed at strengthening local governance and improving service delivery across the metropolis.

The process concluded with the election of new chairpersons for Manhyia South, Manhyia North, Bantama, Subin, and Nhyiaeso, paving the way for renewed leadership at the grassroots level.

Representing the Mayor at the closing ceremony, Metro Coordinating Director Mr Francis Dwira Darko commended Assembly Members and government appointees for their cooperation throughout the reconstitution exercise.

He urged the newly elected chairpersons and members to prioritise unity, collaboration, and active participation in community development initiatives. Mr Darko specifically called for sustained support for the monthly clean-up exercises as part of efforts to drive development and keep Kumasi clean.

The reconstitution of the Sub-Metros is a statutory requirement under local governance structures, designed to bring decision-making closer to residents and enhance responsiveness to community needs.

With the new leadership in place, the councils are expected to coordinate sanitation, local infrastructure, revenue mobilisation, and social services within their jurisdictions.

KMA says the renewed structures will improve accountability and create clearer channels for residents to engage with the Assembly on local issues.

The Assembly reaffirmed its commitment to work with the Sub-Metros and Town Councils to advance Kumasi’s development agenda and maintain its status as a key commercial and cultural hub.
