The police in the Ashanti Region have declared three suspects wanted for their alleged involvement in a fatal robbery attack on the bus of Berekum Chelsea Football Club.

This follows the arrest of two suspects, including the leader of the gang.

The wanted suspects have been identified as Dauda, Huefe and A.T., with the public urged to facilitate their arrest with any relevant information.

The three were mentioned by Mohammed Ahmed, one of the two arrested suspects who sustained a gunshot wound.

A police statement said he has ‘admitted involvement in several robberies, including the Nkawie robbery, the Fufuso mobile vendor attack and the attack on the Berekum Chelsea FC and further mentioned accomplices identified as Dauda, Huefe and A.T., who are currently on the run.’

Robbery
A six-member robbery gang attacked a VIP bus with registration number AM 9334-20, carrying about thirty (30) football players and officials of Berekum Chelsea from Samreboi to Berekum.

The attack is reported to have happened on March 12, 2026, at about 10:30 pm.

In an attempt to escape, the bus skidded into a bush.

The police reported that Dominic Frimpong, a footballer, sustained gunshot injuries and was rushed to the Bibiani Government Hospital, where he passed away.

It further reported that another victim, identified as George Owusu Afriyie, 52, was robbed of GHS 4,500.00.

Arrest
Two of the suspects were arrested by a combined team of officers from the Police Intelligence Directorate Headquarters, the Anti-Robbery Unit, CID Headquarters, the Ashanti South and the Ashanti Regional Police Commands on April 15, 2026.

The intelligence-led operation conducted by the team at Atimatim, Kumasi, led to the arrest of suspect Mohammed Ahmed alias “I Can do”, the gang leader, and suspect Bawa Gideon.

In an attempt to flee, the suspects reportedly fired at the Police while the police retaliated, resulting in injury to the gang leader.

Exhibits retrieved included a pistol with two rounds of .32 ammunition, eleven BB cartridges, a “blantine”, pepper spray, desert boots, assorted mobile phones and a black pullover.

Commendation
The Police Command commended the officers and men involved in the operation for their relentless efforts and professionalism in apprehending the suspects.

The Command also thanks the public and community members for their cooperation and support, which contributed significantly to this breakthrough.

“While efforts are ongoing to arrest the remaining members of the gang, the suspects will be put before the court to face the full rigours of the law,” it assured.
