The Ghana Police Service has promoted and decorated nineteen senior officers in a move aimed at strengthening leadership within the security service.
The ceremony, held at the National Police Headquarters in Accra on April 17, was led by the Inspector-General of Police, Christian Tetteh Yohuno, with members of the Police Management Board (POMAB) in attendance.
The promotions, which were based on recommendations by the Police Council and approved by President John Dramani Mahama, form part of efforts to recognise merit, dedication and long service within the Police Service.
Eight of the officers were elevated from Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) to Commissioner of Police (COP), marking a step in their professional careers and placing them in key leadership positions across operational and administrative units.
Those promoted to the rank of Commissioner of Police are Dr Luke Asue-In-Yeng Zakpaa, Frederick Agyei, Duuti Tuaruka, Arthur Osei-Akoto, Darko Offei Lomotey, Eric Ken Winful, Barnabas Nambont Nasumong and Desmond Owusu Boampong.
Addressing the officers, the IGP congratulated them on their advancement and urged them to uphold the highest standards of professionalism, discipline and integrity in the discharge of their duties.
He emphasised that the new ranks come with increased responsibility, particularly at a time when public expectations of the Police Service remain high in areas such as crime prevention, public safety and trust-building.
The Ghana Police Service said the promotions are intended not only to reward performance but also to reinforce its leadership structure as part of ongoing reforms to enhance operational effectiveness nationwide.
The ceremony also underscored the Service’s commitment to recognising excellence and motivating officers to maintain high professional standards in line with its mandate to protect life and property.
