The move positions Chairman Wontumi as one of the leading contenders in the race for the party’s top national executive position ahead of the NPP’s crucial internal elections scheduled for later this year.

Chairman Wontumi, who currently serves as the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NPP, unveiled a campaign structure made up of experienced political strategists, party communicators, organisers and youthful activists drawn from across the country.

According to the campaign team, the composition reflects the growing support and confidence the outspoken party stalwart continues to enjoy within the rank and file of the NPP.

The team is expected to spearhead nationwide engagements, delegate outreach programmes and campaign activities in the lead-up to the party’s National Delegates Conference.

Sources within the campaign say Chairman Wontumi’s decision to formally outdoor his campaign machinery follows months of consultations with regional executives, constituency officers, polling station executives and party faithful across the 16 regions.

The campaign is expected to focus on party reorganisation, grassroots empowerment, electoral strategy and rebuilding the NPP ahead of the 2028 general elections.

Meanwhile, the NPP has already announced the official timetable for its nationwide reorganisation and internal elections.

According to the party’s General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, nominations for national executive positions will open from August 10 to August 14, 2026.

Filing of nominations is scheduled for August 15 to August 17, while vetting of aspirants will take place from August 20 to August 23, 2026. The vetting report is expected to be released on August 25, with appeals slated for August 28 and August 29.

The NPP National Executive Elections, including the contest for National Chairman, are scheduled to take place between September 18 and September 20, 2026, during the party’s National Delegates Conference.

The internal elections form part of the NPP’s broader reorganisation exercise aimed at strengthening party structures from the polling station level to the national level ahead of the 2028 general elections.
