Lady Julia, the wife of the Asantehene, has received public recognition for her profound support of Ghanaian artists.

The Chief Patron of the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II Art Awards was idolised as a longstanding quiet patroniser of Ghanaian artists.

Her contribution was acknowledged at the Awards event on May 13, 2026, by the Director of Manhyia Palace Museum, Ivor Agyeman-Duah.

“Our big welcome, however, goes to Lady Julia Osei Tutu, the Chief Patron of the Art Awards, who has supported Ghanaian artists quietly over the years as a collector,” the palace said.

Known for her low-profile support of the arts, Lady Julia has built a reputation as a collector who has backed Ghanaian creatives over many years without public fanfare.

Her role as Chief Patron places her at the centre of the awards, which honour excellence in all forms of art.

Ahead of the 2026 awards ceremony, Lady Julia hosted laureates, members of the diplomatic community, and guests to a welcome cocktail reception.

Agyeman-Duah noted that the Awards scheme had been instituted in the face of a real threat against contemporary art in Ghana.

“Local acquisition and patronage are increasingly vulnerable, as Ghanaian works are being purchased—or lost—through auction markets abroad. The Otumfuo Art Awards is therefore a mechanism of self-renewal and internal appreciation.”

Lady was a practicing artist in primary and secondary schools in Switzerland and the United Kingdom and continued at Wesley Girls after six form.

Her Royal Highness now collects artworks.
