At the recent final funeral rites honoring the late broadcaster of Oman FM, Kwabena Kwakye aka Woka KK held yesterday, contrasting perspectives emerged regarding the experience of power outages in Ghana.
During the event, a woman made remarks drawing comparisons between the power challenges observed during the administrations of former President Mahama and current President Akufo-Addo.
In her address, the woman characterized the power outages witnessed under the tenure of former President Mahama as “Dumsor,” a term widely used to describe the erratic and prolonged electricity blackouts that plagued the country during that period.
However, she went on to describe the current power interruptions under President Akufo-Addo’s administration as “Dark and Lovely,” emphasizing that the outages are comparatively brief, typically lasting only for 1 or 2 hours.
These contrasting labels reflect differing perceptions of the severity and impact of power supply issues across different political administrations in Ghana.
While “Dumsor” evokes memories of prolonged inconvenience and economic repercussions, “Dark and Lovely” suggests a more nuanced perspective, acknowledging the existence of power challenges while emphasizing improvements in reliability and duration of outages.
