Hussein Ibrahim, Aide to Ashanti Regional Minister, has described the MahamaCare initiative as a major intervention expected to transform Ghana’s healthcare system and improve access to quality medical care for citizens.

According to him, the initiative reflects the commitment of John Dramani Mahama to prioritising the health and wellbeing of Ghanaians, particularly persons battling chronic and non-communicable diseases.

“Mahamacare is set to become a game changer in Ghana’s healthcare system, reflecting President Mahama’s commitment to the wellbeing of Ghanaians,” Hussein Ibrahim stated.

The initiative was introduced to provide financial support for the treatment of chronic diseases such as cancer, diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, chronic kidney failure and stroke, which are often not fully covered under the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).

Government officials say the programme is aimed at reducing the financial burden associated with long-term medical care while strengthening healthcare delivery across the country.

President Mahama, during the launch, pledged six months of his salary to support the fund and called on corporate institutions and individuals to contribute towards sustaining the initiative.
