Anti-LGBTQ Bill: Akufo-Addo delaying because he does not want us to know he opposes the bill - Asiedu Nketiah

The National Chairman of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, has said that President Nana Akufo-Addo has refrained from making a definitive statement regarding the anti-LGBTQ+ bill.

Asiedu Nketiah, popularly known as General Mosquito, claimed in an appearance on Asempa FM on March 27 that the president’s unwillingness to openly address the bill is a calculated move to avoid responsibility.

In actuality, he says, the president lacks the guts to voice his opinion about the law. That’s the reason he appears to be shifting the blame on the courts or some other party so he can later deny any involvement.

Asiedu Nketiah drew attention to a discrepancy between what is said in parliament and what is done outside of it.

He claimed that the delays are because Akufo-Addo does not want the public to know that he opposes the anti-LGBT+ measure. Had he been adamantly against the bill, his other MPs would have done the same. However, he is reluctant to speak out, and his MPs don’t want to be linked to the bill’s opponents.

He claimed that although the NPP MPs openly show their support in parliament, their conduct varies outside of it.
