I will go back to sakawa if I don't succeed in music - Showboy

Ghanaian musician Showboy, also known as Showbezzy, in interview on Adom FM monitored by News & Vibes opened up about his past involvement in fraud and armed robbery, issuing a warning that he may return to criminal activities if his music career does not succeed.

The interview provided a platform for Showboy to share his life story and the challenges he has faced since returning to Ghana after being deported from the United States.

“Music so far, so good. I want Ghanaians to support me; otherwise, I will go and do fraud,” Showboy declared, laying bare the stark reality of his situation. He admitted to engaging in fraudulent activities, known as “sakawa,” in the past and even confessed to involvement in armed robbery.

“I have done a lot of bad things, even armed robbery. If music doesn’t give it to me, then I have to go back,” he asserted, highlighting the desperation he feels to succeed in the music industry.

Showboy expressed his belief that opportunities for employment in Ghana are scarce, and he sees music as his chance to turn his life around. However, he acknowledged the challenges he faces in gaining support and recognition as a musician.

“I learned my lesson when I came back to Ghana that I can’t come from prison to do fraud, scam. If music doesn’t help me, I will go back to fraud.”

In March 2019, Showboy was sentenced to six years in prison for stabbing Junior US, a US-based Ghanaian musician, during a tussle.

Despite the stabbing, Junior US survived, but tragically, he was later killed in a robbery attack in 2021.

Initially, many speculated that Showboy’s associates were responsible for Junior’s death. However, this theory was debunked when the true perpetrators were apprehended by US law enforcement.

Despite being incarcerated, Showboy remained active on social media, sharing details of his life and the events that led to his imprisonment.
